Kaitiaki Pūtea | Treasurer - Ko Te Tuara Totara o Fordlands
.png)
For over twenty years, I have worked closely with whānau and community groups, particularly in Fordlands. My work background involves teaching, including at Sunset primary, working for Plunket Well-child services and in community development with other community centres and services, with the community of Fordlands a major hub of my work. I attended and supported many community events and played an active role in local support efforts, such as coordinating donations of school stationery, clothing, and essential resources for families in need.
I also delivered weaving workshops three days a week while overseeing a childcare centre managed by a trained coordinator and helped coordinate empowerment groups at the Fordlands Community Centre. Previous to working in the community centre I ran home-based recreation classes at the back classrooms of what was then, Sunset Intermediate.
I now lead a charitable trust focused on revitalising traditional weaving. Across all my roles, my focus remains on strengthening cultural knowledge, empowering whānau, and supporting community wellbeing. Thank you for the opportunity to once again support our Fordlands community. My role for another year is Treasurer, which is made easier by the professionalism of the Centre Manager Maraea Pomana and our Secretarty Nancy Littler.
