Youth Worker

Ko Daniel Haurua Tōku Ingoa
He uri tēnei nō Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Tamaterā, Rakahanga me Manihiki anō hoki.
I was born here in Rotorua but was raised in the Cook Islands and then in Auckland. Since moving back to Rotorua, my goal has been to serve as many rangatahi within the Fordlands community as possible to ensure our kids are taken care of and living their absolute best lives.
I enjoy performing, coffee and being with people. I can yap and like to make conversation and hear people’s stories. I find people are really interesting when you get to know them.
Education is really important to me, and so ensuring our kids are engaged, enjoying and succeeding in their education is one of my goals in this work. I’m aware that for most, quality education is what unlocked so many doors for our rangatahi to succeed and prosper in their work. I want to make sure I’m walking the talk to so I am also on a learning journey with Te Reo Māori.
I want people to know about Fordlands in a positive light. Cause we are amazing people, and our city and beyond should know that.
Here's a bit more about my mahi:
Fordlands Funday: Our weekly community days. A rangatahi-led initiative with Sports, games and a BBQ all free of charge. The purpose of the day is to bring our community together.
Fordlands Leadership Group: Our leadership cohort is responsible for planning and executing community events throughout the year. Our group also engages in leadership development activities. The purpose of our leadership group is to develop a generation of community pou within and for the benefit of the Whānau in Fordlands.
Employment, Educations and Training Programme: This programme looks to engage rangatahi not engaged in education towards readiness for work and the real-world through real-world experience. Our participants will leave with barista training and job-readiness essentials such as CV’s, Driver Licensing and the like.
Mentoring: Our youth programme also offers everyday youth mentoring to ensure our rangatahi are living rich, full and fulfilling lives.
